It is with great sorrow that I must tell all of you that we have lost one of the best of the best '64 Bulldog Basketball Stars: Charles Van Lear. Charles suffered a heart attack, on an early day in May, and passed away, Saturday morning, May 18th. Charles will be remembered as one of the kindest, gentlest, most caring, and friendliest guys one would ever hope to meet. We were the lucky ones in that we got to see him for 12 years everyday during school. He was a friend to all who met him, and he had a positive word to say about everyone and everything. He was "poetry in motion" on the basketball court, and seldom missed a shot. Off the court, he loved his Class of '64 and attended every class reunion and Old Dawgs reunion unless otherwise committed. He was one of those wonderful alums who would visit those who were hospitalized, whether they were fellow students or faculty members, if he knew they were ill. Charles we will always remember you as one of the "good guys" of all time from our class. Thank you for the kindness and love you so unselfishly gave us. You were truly a Gentle Man and an Impressive Athlete. We shall miss you; you will remain in our hearts and those of many other MHS alumni who appreciated you and your wonderful loyalty to our high school on Cleveland Avenue. MHS Forever Charlie! You will always be a star in our crown.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. |
