In Memory of
Samuel Webster Adams M.D.

May 10, 1921 - August 15, 2014

Dr. Samuel Webster Adams, Jr. died Friday, August 15, 2014 at his home. He was born May 10, 1921 in Washington, D.C, the son of Samuel Webster Adams and Emma Louise Conner Adams. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939 and received his B.S degree from George Washington University in 1943. He graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1946 and served as a physician in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1949. He began his medical practice in Martinsville in 1950 in the Shackelford Building. He retired from the practice of medicine in 1992. Dr. Adams loved being a physician and was very devoted to his patients.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Chambliss Adams and a son, Samuel Webster Adams, III.

He is survived by his wife Elva Adkins Adams, daughter, Susan Adams Oliver and husband Kenneth of Chappaqua, NY, son William Chambliss Adams and wife Phyllis of Cary, NC, son John Randolph Adams and wife Mary of Midlothian, VA, son David Price Adams and wife Michelle of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Margaret Louise Adams Joback and husband John of Leesburg, VA, son George Arthur Adams and wife Kim of Galax, VA and a sister Kathryn Kavanagh of Silver Spring, MD. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Boyce Webster Adams and wife Katie, William Randolph Adams and wife Whitney, Dr. Samuel Webster Adams, II and wife Cristin, John Randolph Adams, Jr., Katherine Elizabeth Oliver, Hunter Chambliss Adams, Evan Tyler Adams, Michael Carl Adams, Allison Taylor Adams, one great-grandchild, Samuel Parker Adams and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 18, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Roy G. Pollina officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
