Class of 1976 Message List
Congratulations (AGAIN) for Jamie and April Mason - 21
01/05/05     Jeff Belcher  (1976)      jrb@lee-mcshane.com
Attached is an article from the Martinsville Bulletin on Brandon Mason (Jamie and April Mason's son). CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Mason named to All-Star team

Martinsville native and Elon University center Brandon Mason was named to the 40-player 2004 I-AA.org All-Star football team on Monday.
The honor is the latest in a long line of accolades the 6-foot-3 inch, 260-pound Mason has earned this year. Last week, he was selected as a first team All-American by CollegeSportsReport.com. Earlier in December, Mason was picked to the Division I-AA Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team for the third consecutive year and declared a finalist for the Division I-AA ADA's $5,000 Postgraduate Scholarship for the second season in a row.
Also last month, the College Sports Information Directors of America named Mason an ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-American. In November, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame declared him one of its 2004 National Scholar-Athletes and $18,000 fellowship recipients.
Also in November, Mason was tabbed to the First Team All-Southern Conference by the league's coaches for the second year in a row; he was slated to the First Team All-SoCon by the conference's media as well. Mason was crowned the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all sports on Nov. 17.
In 2004, Mason snapped the ball on 677 of the team's 698 offensive plays, missing just 13 assignments for a 98 percent grade. He amassed 106 knockdown blocks (9.6 per game), allowed no sacks in 287 passing attempts and paved the way for Southern Conference leading rusher John Taylor.
In May, he graduated magna cum laude from Elon with a 3.81 career grade-point average as a business administration major and an accounting minor. Mason, a red-shirt as a true freshman for the 2000 campaign, now is in his first year in Elon's MBA program.
During his undergraduate career, Mason was named to the President's List six times, the Dean's List twice and the Athletics Director's Honor Roll all eight semesters. He has been chosen as a TIAA-CREF Academic All-Southern Conference selection each of the past two seasons and has been inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma, Chi Alpha Sigma, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Beta Delta national honor societies.
Mason has been declared the NCAA-I-AA Offensive Lineman of the Week four times during the past three seasons, including twice in 2004, by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette. He also has served as a team captain and as a member of Elon's Student-Athlete Advisory Council each of the past two years.
