Sad news - 9
01/18/18     Phil Sparks  (1965)      PhilSparks@kimbanet.com
Sadly Father-in-law of David Sparks passed away after a short illness.
Many of you in the class of 1962 have met Mr. Lambert when he would accompany David on many of your get-togethers. I am including Mr. Lambert’s Obit. I hope you will all keep Christine and family in your prayers.

Mr. Lorain Otis Lambert, age 93 of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born March 23, 1924 to the late Jimmy and Alice Reynolds Lambert. Mr. Lambert proudly served our country in the United States Army in the Philippines during World War II. He was a Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division; also known as “Tropic Lightning.” He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2019. Mr. Lambert served in the U.S. Occupation Forces in Japan following the war. After his service to our country, Mr. Lambert first farmed and then went to work at Perry Manufacturing and worked in the Maintenance Department where he later retired. Mr. Lambert was a founding member of the Four-Way Fire Dept., where he served as a volunteer fireman for more than 25 years. Mr. Lambert was also a faithful member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and Choir Director and also maintained perfect Sunday School attendance for 42yrs.
Left to cherish his memory are a daughter and son-in-law Christine and Dr. David Sparks; grandchildren Sherry Tipton and her husband Darrell; and Chris Sparks and wife Autumn; two great grandchildren Timothy and Tiffany Tipton; a sister, Virginia Thomas; and brother-in-law, Roger Marshall, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lambert was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Cole Lambert; two sisters, Essie Pack and his twin sister, Irene Goins; as well as two brothers, Rastus and Curtis Lambert.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Flippin Memorial Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Tim Burton, Dr. David Sparks, and Rev Keith Casey. Burial will follow in Korners Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Honor Guard post #2019 of Mt. Airy and post #9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Flippin Memorial Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
