Two days ago Judi and I look out into the back yard and there are 27 Roosevelt elk in the yard as close as 25 feet from the house.
They stayed around for about 30 minutes and we got some good pictures.
What a treat!
Happy holidays to all!!

WOW! I'll say that was a treat!! What a fantastic sight that must have been. Where do you live? When I put out birdseed Sunday morning, after our Christmas Day snow, I got excited seeing about 25 little snowbirds, a dozen gray doves, 8 blue jays, 6 redbirds and one red-headed sapsucker (small woodpecker) flocking in all at once at the birdfeeder. I love watching nature. Thanks for sharing your experience. Wish I could have seen it, too. |

Re: Elk in the Backyard |
Good to see you're enjoying the Northwest...Wild animals that big must be an awsome sight. In Martisnville, we continue to have large groups of deer(White tail)roaming through the neigborhood. My nextdoor neighbor has a license to cull the hurd in the city. He uses a crossbow. it's not unusual to see eight or more in my back yard. I also have a freezer full of venison and I've never been deer hunting in my life.
Put me on a trout stream and I'm a happy camper. take care.

Re: Elk in the Backyard |
Hi Ken,
We have plenty of trout streams out this way too. I live about a half mile from one of the best; but the big attraction here are the salmon - kings, sockeye and steelheads are the most popular. I am not much of a fisherman anymore (it is too easy to just buy what I want fresh and cheap off the docks in La Push) but we surely love to hike and explore and take pictures. The Dungeness crabs are the season now.
Come out some time and I will drive you around the area. IF we are not still in Forks, we plan to be in the Port Angeles area. |
