Greetings to all:
This is my first posting but I have enjoyed your entries for years. Like many of you I am retired from my paying job. However, I am enjoying my full time volunteering position with the American Cancer Society. Cancer has been creeping around and affecting members of the class of '64 since right after our HS graduation. I have been painfully aware of the presence of this disease among us.
One thing I have also been aware of is the class of '64 has remained connected and can make a party out of any situation. This year is unique for us, most will or have already celebrated our 64th birthday, our graduation year. I am proposing we form a team in the upcoming Relay For Life campaign call the "64 Walkers".
I'm sure many of you have some fun filled fundraiser ideas. This would be an awesome way to remember our classmates we have lost their battle and honor the ones still fighting.
Join me as I start the list of affected classmates with my dear friend Sandy Bowles. She lost her battle with ovarian cancer over 10 years ago. At that time the survival rate was very low. The survival rate for all stages of ovarian cancer is now 50%. A lot has been accomplished over the past decade.
My thoughts also go to our fun loving friend Ken Whitner. So, anyone interested, jump in, let's party. Someone volunteer to be the team Captain.
