Hi Everyone,
It was great to see some old buddies at the Old Dawgs reunion this weekend, and we hope to see MANY more at the reunion in June. Someone wrote to us indicating that they might not attend both evening events and asked what it would cost for each night. Here is the policy and the reasoning behind it.
We charge a weekend price rather than a single night price for the following
reasons:
The Friday night event is always less expensive, but if a large number of
people decide to come just on Friday, it makes the cost of the Saturday
night very expensive for those who come to that, and unfortunately, that is
the event that has to be paid for with deposits in advance. Saturday night is
when there is a program, dinner, and music. It's the "official" event for
the reunion. We can't guess who may or may not come, so we have to estimate
how many people will attend Saturday night and figure the amount for the
cost of that evening, plus all the other costs for the reunion weekend. If a lot of
people want to have it done differently in the future, that is no problem.
The total costs of the weekend aren't just what the dinners for Friday and
Saturday cost, but also include the music, paper, envelopes, postage,
printing, phone calls, name tags, deposit, and funding to get the next
reunion started. Ann Carter and Dink advised us from their past experiences
that we should charge a weekend amount and encourage everyone to attend what
they want. There was one exception this year. One person responded to our original
invitation last fall (Douglass Finney contacted us immediately and let us
know that she could only attend Friday night. It was not possible for her to
be there on Saturday, so we tried to accommodate that request since we have
known for months.)
The bottom line is that we want everyone to see and enjoy as many people as
possible over the weekend of the reunion. It has been a lot of fun (and work)
to try to plan a great weekend for everyone, whether they live in town or
are traveling from some distance and paying additional expenses to be there.
Consequently, we know that the $40 weekend price is fair since that is what
it costs per person to put together the reunion. If you feel that special
circumstances indicate that you should not be charged that amount, please
don't hesitate to contact Jennifer or me. We want you there if you can
possibly attend.
Please help spread the word and help us locate those folks who are
still on the missing list who may not have gotten the reunion information.
