Ok, this is a little goofy, but as I was thinking about the reunion, I found myself trying to remember the words to the alma mater. I was amazed how much I could remember of the first verse, but part of it doesn't look right, so I'm submitting my memory to the jury of my classmates. Is this right?
We hail the halls of honor
Of justice and of might
Where trophies of maroon and gray
are shining bright*
We hail the friends with whom we've shared
Both gladness and woe
We hail our loyal teachers
Who guide us as we go.
If this is close, it seems to me to capture the spirit of the reunion pretty well: hailing each other and all... Weren't there other verses?
*maroon and gray trophies? that's a weird image... |

First verse, change ending to:
We hail our teachers loyal
Who guide us as we go.
continuing ....
For here we've found the pleasure
That comes from work well done
And cheered our teams
As they have fairly fought and won
And though some day we'll leave our school
And go far and nigh
Our hearts will always cherish
A love for Mavahi.
Pardon this intrusion from the Class of '65. We like to help our elders when we can. Congratulations on your reunion! Sounds like it was a great success and enjoyed by all. |

| Andy, you must have missed Ann Carter and Sallie Noell singing it in the front hall when we walked in. They knew every word, it was amazing. |

Jennifer, maybe that's where I got the idea. I kept hearing these voices in my head, and it turns out it was THEIR voices! I do remember hearing some singing as we went it, but I was so busy gawking I didn't pay much attention to it.
Is there a third verse? If not, there should be. We need an official ALUMNI verse ....and who better to write one than the Class of '64? I think I will make that a challenge: one of you undiscovered, unpublished lyricists out there get busy and write an Offical Alumni Stanza. We could premiere it at the 40th anniversary bash. |
