Hello all,
Please pardon my "juvenile" intrusion into your message forum... I am Susan Bridges, aka "Kitty," daughter of David Bridges, who taught French at Mavahi in the mid 1960s. We are compiling stories of our father's teaching career, possibly for eventual publication. If any of you have funny, interesting or otherwise notable stories from "Mr. B's" classroom, the trip to France, and/or photographic and theatrical ventures, please send them to us at

Hi Susan,
I was in your father's French class in my Jr and Sr years and was on the infamous trip to France where I almost drowned! (Through no fault of your father's.) Marty Lester and I and several other group members decided to walk around the beaches of Mt St Michele. We did not know that there is a major tide that comes in faster than you could walk!
They had to send motorboats out to rescue us! As we were coming back in the French men that resqued us were yelling at us in French but we did not understand. Wefinally realized that we were in danger as the beach had disappeared and the water was crashing against the rocks. It was terribly exciting!
It was not until I saw your father and the rest of the very worried and frantic people on the tour that I realized we could have drowned.
Your Dad was the perfect chaperone; always there if we needed him but not overprotective! I had one of the best times of my life~ I am sure I gave him many grey hair!
Marty and I also left a tour of one of the chateaus early to find a pastry shop and the tour bus left us! Marty was almost in tears and we sat on the steps on the chateau and I assured her the bus would come back for us; and of course it did!
We had great times touring the Loire Valley as well as the rest of France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland and Monte Carlo.
I could tell more stories but I will leave that to some of the others. Ann Carter, how about some from you?

Thank you for sharing ---believe it or not, I do remember Dad telling this story! I did not have the details, however. Wanted to add that we have boxes & boxes of slides & photographs from that trip to France.... coupled with stories this would add to the melange, we think. Thank you also to the several who have emailed me privately. Please do continue to share as the memories come back!
