ANYONE REMEMBER THAT NIGHT OUR TEAM WON STATE AT BLACKSBURG AND THE NAMES OF THE PLAYERS. I DO REMEMBER A VERY, VERY FOGGY RIDE HOME AFTER THE GAME THAT NIGHT. I THINK THERE WERE GUYS ON THAT TEAM NAMED DON, FREDDIE, CHARLIE, MIKE , JOHNNY....... AND WHO WERE THE CHEERLEADERS......VERY IMPORTANT PART OF WATCHING THE GAME ..... I KNOW THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE ANNE .. AND WHO WERE OUR QUARTERBACKS DURING THAT ERA? I THINK MONOHAN , MAYBE........ AND CAVE SPRINGS SEEMED TO RUIN A LOT OF HOMECOMINGS, AND THERE WAS G.W. OF DANVILLE , TOO. KEN WILSON MUST HAVE BEEN IN THERE SOMEWHERE..AND TOMMY.......AND OAKES.... I CAN STILL SEE THAT BOY RUNNING!!!! OF COURSE, I WAS A BAND MEMBER TRYING TO KEEP IN STEP DURING THE HALF-TIME SHOWS----DON'T REMEMBER ANY BIG-TIME SINGERS COMING FOR OUR HALF-TIME SHOWS,THOUGH.........WELL , SOMEBODY HAS TO MAKE THE MUSIC IN LIFE. AND FINE MUSIC IT IS. AND I WILL NEVER BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A FINER CLASS THAN THE CLASS OF '64 AT 'OLE MHS. |

Hey Jerry,
I wasn't much of a round ball player; but on the gridiron that was a differnt story; we
were 9 and 1 our senior year.
How about Buddy Roden, Ken Oaks and Billy Smith at halfbacks, Mike Uram at fullback, Sonny Wade at QB, yours truly at center, Ken Whitener and Ken Horsely at guards(Mike Robertson broke his leg as I recall), Johnny Reed and Logan Esarey at tackles, Jimmy Sampson and Danny Walker at ends. Lots of back-up from Rodney Anouil, Richie Campbell, Billy Cotty, Bobby Hollander, Gary Wheeler and a host of others. Cheer leaders? I remember Anne Carter, Kitty Hay Gravely, Kathern Riddle, Jennifer Hill, Sydnor Adams, Ann Gravely, and Flora (Nell) Rislow.I'm sure I left some out, but I do remember those.
I bet Ken Oaks and Ken Wilson remember the bus trip to Radford- we found a fifth of
"Old Rot Gut" booze behind the bench seat in the back of the bus and we were felling real good by the time the game started. Or the time the Old Bulldog bus broke down in Boones Mill; we were going to a track meet and were wearing red sweatsuits and we built a big bonfire by the road side; we looked like the mad hatters from hell. We really had some good times.

Tommy, what a great response . That was excellent info on the football team of '63-'64. We sometimes forget those key players on the line. That was a great season. MAYBE OTHERS WILL WRITE IN ABOUT THEIR MEMORIES AND GIVE US ALL A CHANCE TO REMEMBER TOGETHER. WE COULD NOT ALL MAKE IT TO THE REUNION, BUT WE COULD HAVE A REUNION HERE ON LINE. JERRY |
