Does anyone else remember the sockhops? My Mom or Dad used to drive us up there and LaVerne Moore's mother, bless her heart, used to pick us up.

I certainly remember them, but think I only went when I was old enough to drive
myself. I thought they were fun, too! Used to love to dance!!!! I still do, but I
have become my Mother when it comes to dancing and am now stiff as a board! |

Hi, Douglas! Yes I do remember one sock hop in particular when WMVA was broadcas-
ting one summer night in '61. I was "forbidden" to go out of the city limits, but went
with Sue, Laverne, Jennifer, and Jean ( who were never forbidden to do anything) and
my ukuele and (you guessed it) we sang over the air. Now why did I think my mom
would not hear about that? In less than 12 hours the message came through.
Yes, I had a lot of explaining to do and, no, I didn't do it very well. Home Sweet Home
for the next two weekends!

I must have missed that sockhop, wish I had been there. I do remember you and your ukulele as we toured France and Europe in the summer of '63. Not only did your Mom let you go out of town but she let you leave the country! |

Hey, Douglas!! I sure do remember the sockhops at Fieldale. Do you remember "Tootie Stultz"? He called me a couple of years ago. He is traveling the world, having done VERY WELL in Charlottesville in real estate. I remember so well dancing by the pool or in the YMCA. Fieldale was like a second home to me. I believe there was a "reunion" sockhop about 3 years ago- I missed it but my aunt and cousin went. They said it was great.
