As the tragic news unfolded last Tuesday from the Pentagon and the World Trade
Center in New York City, Dink and I could not help but remember that we were all to-
gether during the Cuban Missle Crisis which we really didn't know much about, and
the assassination of President Kennedy. We are a close-knit family, Class of "64,
whatever happens to one of us happens to all of us because we care so much. I
hope that all of you will make plans to come to our reunion in June of 2002. Please

Ann Carter and Dink, I had a few frantic hours Tuesday until I learned that my
niece (Jackie's daughter who works 4 blocks from the WTC) was safe. You are so
right about those few defining moments in our lives where we can all remember
exactly what we were doing when those tragic events occured. Though I am
incredibly saddened and find it hard to concentrate on anything else, I know
this too shall pass and we will get beyond these horrific times. Y'all stay safe
and in touch.

| Thank you, Gardners and Judy, for the comforting words. While I have not been "close" to my classmates from way out here in mid-America, the events of last week remind me how precious that idyllic time was for us and how close we became. It is said you can't look back, but I don't know why not: some of the seeds of how we all learned to deal with adversity and take joy in sharing friendships were sown in those days, and I think it does us all good to look back at those times and the people that made them special, especially when we try to derive some meaning from an event like the trade center attack . By the way, I traveled to Martinsville during the middle of all the tragedy to be with my sisters for the burial of my mother, who passed away Sep.10. The occasion didn't allow me to contact anyone, but I will rectify that in the future. Warm regards.... Andy G. |

This has been the most terrible time any of us has known and hopefully will ever know. It is very difficult to be here in Norfolk with all of the military. As a psychterapist, I work with many military familes. Tragically, one of my friends and her husband had just moved to DC where he was stationed at the Pentagon. He was killed in the terrorist attack on the 11th.
We have been truly blessed as a country to have never had an attack like this before on our mainland.
We have always had a most special class and I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. Be sure and come on Friday night so I can see you because I must drive my mother to Myrtle Beach on Saturday for our family reunion. We have it every 2 years and she is the big organizer so she always has to be the 1st one there. |
