Miss my summers in Martinsville. My brother Jimmy and I would visit our grandmother, Lizzie Edwards, in Martinsville every summer. My good friends at that time were Ronnie and Terry Pearson, Danny and Bobby Cole, JoAnn Cartee, Agnes Gilley, David Heard, Phil Sparks. My brother's good friends were Don Ramsey and Melvin Smith. One year I took the adventure to attend MAVAHI during my Sophomore year in order to care for my elderly grandmother. What a year that was. I ran track and enjoyed the 100, 200, 400 relay and Long Jump. Great athletes at MAVAHI during those years. Every summer we enjoyed Liberty Heights and playing softball at Cotton Mill Hill and Clearview Drive. Those were some great, great memories and fun times. After that sophomore year, I returned to NY and finished with my Class of '65, but will always hold a special spot for MAVAHI. Tom Tullo. P.S. I cannot remember the name of my Spanish teacher. Any ideas? Would have been Spanish II. I learned Spanish growing up in NY from some of my friends, plus HS classes.

| Spanish teacher was likely Senora Smith. There was a younger teacher but I don't remember her name. |

One of my Spanish teachers was Miss Betty Jo
Croom. Of course I had Senora Smith, also.

Until I read Myra's posting, I had forgotten Señorita Croom,
who tried to teach me Spanish I. Of course, my absolute favorite Spanish teacher was Senora Smith, who I understand lived to be about a 100!! Loved all those songs we used to sing in class. Even today, I find myself singing,
"Quando caliente el sol, esta aqui in la playa..." and one of my favorite ones was, "Cachito, Cachito, Cachito mio.."

It took me four years to pass two years of Spanish all with Senora Smith - in about 1985 I was visiting M'ville and after working in Middle and South America for 10 years and becoming fluent in Spanish, I stopped by her house to wish her well - of course all was in Spanish from me - she gave me a look that said I do not understand what you are saying and slammed the door on me! Maybe I caught her at a bad time - the look said I do not speak Spanish that well!!
