A pretty girl caught my eye in the halls of Martinsville High School in the fall of 1962. I was a senior and she was a sophomore. I saw her again in the parking lot of the old Central Grammar School across from MHS. She was in the back seat of Kathy Renfroe's 1956 Chevy that belong to her dad. When I saw her that time, the thought came to mind that she was the girl I wanted to marry. After a few years in college for both of us, we couldn't live apart any longer. So she agreed to marry me. I have been blessed to be the the husband of Myra Thrasher, that beautiful girl who caught my eye at MHS in 1962. We have been married 52 years, have 3 sons, 4 grandchildren and 2 dogs. We live in Greensboro, NC. The first time I held Myra's hand was on our first date at the Rives Theater. Neither of us remember the movie, but if the truth be know, who cared about the movie. I was more interested in the girl sitting beside me. Sadly the old theater burned to the ground over this past weekend. Nobody knows the cause as of this date. But as many of you may recall, the old Rives Theater was a popular attraction for us teens in those days. Many a romance blossomed there, including mine with my lovely wife. |

Re: The Rives Theater |
Gosh, what a lovely essay, Jim! I so enjoyed it and am cheered to hear that you and Myra continue to enjoy good health and each other despite the loss of The Rives Theater. All the best, Dale Liddicoat |
