To a certain extent, every generation seems to be defined by the music of its youth. Around Martinsville in 1966-1967 beach, soul, psychedelic rock, and rhythm and blues appeared to reach a lot of high school students. I ws marginally a high school student during this time frame but I was a full-time music devotee. Well, forty years later, I am still a big fan of "gut bucket" blues and I like to "blow a little harp" whenever I get the chance. I believe our DJ on Saturday night will include some blues cuts for our edification. I look forward to hearing this stuff again and I know that Bo Lawrence and some others may apreciate the chance to relive the glory days of the The Hossman and John R from WLAC in Nashville, TN. However, it would really be great if a few of our talented classsmates would bring their "ax" to this gig and entertain the troops with live music during an intermission or two. It would be groovy (how long has it been since you heard this term)if some guitar players among us would lay down a 1, 4, 5 shuffle for an extended jam session. I can supply a vintage blackface Fender Super Reverb amp for the event. What do you say? |

Harry, you may have been a marginal high school student, but you were a hell of a guy to have as a friend. There are plenty of specific memories of those years, but whenever I think back there in general terms, it is an image of several of us packed in a car while making a circuit between Ayers', Rumley's, Druid Lanes and Jan's Dutch Boy. There would always be one person designated to keep their hand on the tuning dial to be sure we could maintain signal with John R. layin' it down for Royal Crown and Randy's Record Mart. I hope some of the other '67's take you up on your exhortation, and furthermore, I hope a good time is had by all. |

I'm with you Harry. Don't have a guitar, but I've been known to play a little "blues fiddle". All we'll need is a good rhythm section.
How 'bout it guys?
