We have lost another of our classmates.

The funeral for Alfred Clarence Atkinson Jr., 59, of 237 Chatmoss Court, Martinsville, who died Jan. 12, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chatmoss Baptist Church.
The Rev. Rodney Houston will officiate, and burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. today at the church and other times at the home.
He was born in Danville on Sept. 15, 1948, to Alfred C. Atkinson Sr. and Verlie Hancock Atkinson. His parents preceded him in death.
He graduated from Martinsville High School. He was employed by Lowe’s Home Improvement and was a long-time member of Chatmoss Baptist.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Brown Atkinson of the home; one daughter, Michelle Barker of Martinsville; two sons, Greg Atkinson of Atlanta, Ga., and Steven Atkinson of Cary, N.C.; and one granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Chatmoss Baptist Church, 400 Chatmoss Court, Martinsville, Va. 24112.
Collins-McKee-Stone in Martinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
