For any of you expatriates who do not read the Bulletin on-line I have this passing to note.
John B. English
John Brown English, 94, of the Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville, and formerly of 331 East
Church St., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at the rehab center.
He was born Aug. 25, 1907, in Martinsville to the late Stephen Douglas English and the late Lucy
Brown English. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Purnell English Schottland and four
brothers, P. Vernon English, James R. English, S. Douglas English Jr. and W. Frederick English.
He attended Martinsville city schools and was a member of Broad Street Christian Church.
His survivors are a number of nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, with Dr. James Dickerson
officiating.
Memorials may be made to Broad Street Christian Church, 106 Broad St., Martinsville, Va. 24112.
Arrangements are being handled by McKee-Stone Funeral Services.
Let's stop for a minute and thank the Lord for putting this gentle soul on the planet. He never met a stranger, and speaking for me is an integral part of my memories of Martinsville. |

Re: Yell |
Now I really do feel old. Please tell me that "James the Paperboy" is still delivering the "Bulletin" on his Huffy. |

Re: Yell |
Mr. English was definitely a downtown fixture in our younger days. Cindy, don't know about "James" but good old Clarence still walks the streets selling his papers. |
