You young people and your music. Let's break out and go visual for a change. I frittered 3 1/2 months on a whim I call "How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Dan E Simpson", which you're invited to see. E-mail me directly and I'll respond with a pair of photos or visit the freshly revised www.finedesigndan.com and find it in the painting slide show between the stained glass and ceramics shows. It's the big one. Big as a barn. And thanks to all of you who visited the site last Spring. Now, you guys, did you ever consider sampling songs from this century? Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or J Roddy Walston and the Business or Wilco or Spoon? Good stuff still happens. Best wishes and happy holidays and clue me in: where did you hide your reunion photos? |

Re: Let's Get Visual..Visual |
Dan,
I am a big fan of Wilco in both the literal and figurative sense. I must admit though that I generally judge newer acts by whether their sound would have cut it in the world that is my purple hazed memory of the period from 1965-75.
I just visited your site, and must say it is quality stuff. I am making my annual east coast tour next month, and may give you a holler if I pass through Maryland. |

Re: Let's Get Visual..Visual |
Bob, you are clearly the Spokes-Man of your bunch and thank you. Allow me to re-enter the fray. As an artist, here's what I like in any medium, including music. I like fingerprints. I like someone who allows their identity to be captured in their product and thus creates something unique. When I tool around in my hot rods I listen to classic rock because so much radio stuff is too formula. (Unless you're Sirius.) I think the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker were musical innovators whether considered rock, classical, or jazz. I grab 70's CDs from my shelf at random as easily as new stuff. My son, who just turned 25, is a rock musician, so he keeps me current and I like a lot of what I hear, examples previously noted. I've introduced him to old school. (Matter of fact he was here last Sunday for a roast chicken birthday dinner and for dinner music I played Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett.) If you haven't met BRMC's "Baby 81", take a listen. It is: A)pure rock and B) distinctively themselves. Then when the mellow mood strikes I'm all like Wilco's "Sky Blue Sky". I'm betting you agree. Rock on and it would be my pleasure to hear you holler. |
