Posted on FB from Walker's good friend, Ed Stone. Very heart warming.
My very good friend Walker Pollard died in Kathmandu, Nepal, day before yesterday. He had flown around the world to visit his brother George, who is a dentist in a clinic there. Walker's daughter Suzy called me this morning and said he felt bad after the long flight and was having chest pains, after which he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was 62, and while his mother lived to 101 and his father well into his mid-90s, Walker smoked unfiltered Camels for as long as I can remember, at least since college. I can’t help but think there is a connection.
He was unpretentious, followed no trends of style or fashion, and regardless of his PhD education and rather large intellect, spoke plainly and directly.
Walker was a clear-eyed realist and a bit of a fatalist and wouldn’t have much use for tears at this news, but I will surely miss him. He was a touchstone of sorts for who I am, as we passed through many phases of life together, not to mention wives and girlfriends. Now there will be a hole where the lengthy phone calls, visits, beer and endless discussions on everything were.

Thank you Ed Stone for this message. George was my family delivered our newspaper for many years and Walker always smiling in the halls of MHS. Two great guys from our hometown. My sympathy to George and Walker's family for a very unexpected passing.

| So very well-written and true of Walker. Also very heartfelt. Like Townesy, Walker was my friend, neighbor and paperboy when growing up in Martinsville. Last time I saw him, he asked me if I remembered him delivering our newspaper. I am very sorry we have lost Walker. |
