Robert McGregor Knighton, 59, of Martinsville, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011.

A memorial service and celebration for Robert “Bob” McGregor Knighton, 59, of Martinsville, who died Dec. 15, 2011, at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Salem, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Wild Magnolia restaurant in Martinsville.
Knighton was born in Martinsville to Mr. and Mrs. Lyell A. Knighton, both deceased.
He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1970, attended Patrick Henry Community College and was drafted into military service in 1972. He was stationed in Wertheim, Germany, with the 71st Assault Helicopter Company.
After his honorable discharge in 1974, he returned to Martinsville and worked in retail and industrial sales, retiring from Bi-State Coil Winding Inc. in 2009. Knighton had lived in Oak Island, N.C., for the last two years.
Surviving are one sister, Susan K. Ramsey of Oviedo, Fla.; two brothers, Charles R. Knighton of Martinsville and James D. Knighton of Ridgeway; three daughters, Clark Knighton Seipt of Centreville, Mary McGregor Knighton of Woolwine and Allison C. Knighton of Falls Church; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at VAMC in Salem.
