Mark A. Hairston, 50, of Richmond, Va., entered eternal rest on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Henrico Doctor's Hospital in Richmond.
He was born on April 28, 1964 to Lena M. Hairston and the late Garvey Todd.
Mark was a 1982 graduate of Martinsville High School and received a BS Degree in Psychology from Virginia State University in 1987. He began his career with the Virginia Department of Corrections as a Prison Guard and then a Counselor.
He became a Parole/Probation Officer with the Richmond Court System where he was later appointed to work with the court drug program under Judge Spencer in Richmond, Va.
In 2005 he retired from the Juvenile Court System of Pittsburgh, Pa., as the physical demands of his MS became more of a challenge.
He enjoyed golfing and attending Pittsburgh Steelers football games and the Richmond Braves baseball games. Mark enjoyed a good laugh, a good cigar, a good joke and a love for his beloved dog Daisy.
He is survived by his mother, Lena M. Hairston, of Martinsville, Va.; two sisters, Teresa (Don) Olson, of Richmond, Va.; and Lillian Toppins, of Portsmouth, Va.; two brothers, Garland K. Hairston, of Martinsville, Va.; and Garvey Todd, Jr, of San Diego, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hines Funeral Services, Inc. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one half-hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home of his mother 110 Pony Place at other times.
In lieu of flowers please make charitable contributions in Mark's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America 2870 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30305 (800) 532-7667.

Oh Wow! So sorry to hear about this! Mark was an amazing guy in HS. He never know it but I was absolutely in love with him!! Being an under class-man (3 years younger than he), he never paid me any attention other than smiling & saying "hey" when passing. That alone melted my heart. I will always remember him.

Definitely tough news to hear. Mark was funny and very witty. He was a good friend that I enjoyed carrying on with in class. You will be missed Brother Mark. |
