I knew Eddie from Dupont and remember him as a very likeable guy and always with a quick smile. My deepest sympathy to Janice and family.
-------------------
James Edward (Edd) Kellam, Jr., born July 12, 1940, a native of Martinsville, Va., resided in Daytona Beach Shores, Fla. where he passed away on December 15, 2018.
He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1958, and during high school he worked bagging and delivering groceries at Georges Supermarket and Winn Dixie. He later joined the Air Force in September 1959 and was honorably discharged in October 1963. He worked in NC for a while and returned to Martinsville for employment at the DuPont Plant for 30 years, from 1964-1994. He held several management positions and settled in as the safety inspector over the entire DuPont Plant until his retirement. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Joyce in April 1964 and they moved to the warmer climate in Daytona Beach Shores after his retiring. He had gone full circle as he got a part time job there bagging groceries and enjoying people!
He was an avid sports fan; football, baseball (Yogi Bera) and racing…he was instrumental in bringing Jeff Gordon and his #24 car to the DuPont Plant for a visit. Later in Florida he met with Jeff again and inquired if Jeff remembered him, to which Jeff answered "of course, you're Edd with two d's!"
Edd was predeceased by his parents; James Edward "Jay" Kellam, Sr. and Margaret Winn Kellam and his "fur baby, Lil Bit".
Survivors include his wife, Janice; and daughter, Deana "Dee" Colmenero (Carlos); two grandchildren, who knew him as their "Papa Edd", Jordan and Dylan Counts of Ashburn, Va. His brother, Joseph "Joe" Ray Kellam (Michiko) of Newport News, Va.; sister, Sue Kellam Nickelston (Paul, brother in law and friend) of Martinsville; nieces and nephews, Margaret Kellam of Texas, Mona Kellam of California, James "Jim" Kellam of Virginia and Michelle Hensley of Georgia; a loving aunt, Elizabeth "Libby" Winn Shipe of Roanoke and numerous cousins.
Edd, or Eddie as his family called him, loved people and they loved him back…known for his ready smile and wit he delighted in creating smiles and good will in his leave. He will be missed by countless people and always loved.
He preplanned and requested cremation and no formal funeral…there will be a private family viewing Thursday morning and he will be at rest in the Lohman Cemetery in Daytona Beach, Florida close to a lake, where he must be fishing as he loved seafood! |

He was one of my favorites from the Class of 1958! Always an unassuming, sweet, kind boy in high school. My sympathy to his family. |
