Claude Franklin “Buck” Wells, 75, of 735 Indian Trail, Martinsville, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Martinsville to Claude Simmons Wells and Bertha Smith Wells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Stone Wells, on Aug. 31, 2011.
Wells was a member of Chatham Heights United Methodist Church. He and his wife owned and operated Buck’s Fuels for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Martinsville Elks Lodge and an honorary volunteer member of the Martinsville Fire Department. He served in the Army and graduated from Richmond Polytechnical Institute.
Surviving is his daughter, Carolyn “Carrie” Wells Turner of Martinsville; two sisters, Edith Wells Brown of Hickory, N.C., and Gladys Wells Setliff of Martinsville; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville with the Revs. Steve Tilley and Marshall Banks officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral and other times will be at the home of his daughter at 1776 Preston Road, Martinsville.
