Hey fellow band Alumni: If you saw my earlier inquiry on the Melody Boys of the 1950's, then you will be excited to know that Rick Shultz has painstakenly acquired and re-recorded all of the available cassette recordings onto a CD that is available on the homepage of Mavahi.com. I received the first copy Rick made (thanks, Rick) and truely love it. If you like Dixieland, Jazz and Swing Style music, you need this CD to enhance your collection. Remember, this was a jazz band of Mavahi students who did this on their own, not like today's bands that are set up by the music teacher and have preschool practices. These guys were innovative and talented with one of them, Johnny Crews, having made a career in the music industry. Remember Terry Mitchell, of Mitchell Howell Ford? He played trombone. These are just two of the fine musicians to enhance this CD. Please support Rick's endeavor of love and musicianship and obtain your copy today. You won't regret it and will thank Rick for his efforts. Bruce.. |

Re: Melody Boys CD |
Bruce, thanks! You're very kind to mention how much you enjoyed the group. Others have told me the same thing and, as you say, it was a labor of love and simply something that needed to be done. I had tapes that Jim Hodnett had never heard, and he had tapes that I'd never heard. All I did was piece them all together. I mention you in the dedication because if I had never seen your message here on Mavahi.com asking about the group, I would never have caught up with Benny Eanes who told me about Jim's tapes. I got in touch with Jim, he sent me what he had and the CDs were born. There's one other person who deserves credit here that I should have mentioned long ago, perhaps even in the dedication: John Franck. John deserves credit for making the Mavahi.com website what it is today and for providing the platform for you to write the original message that started all this. I can't think of a better way to thank him than to let him distribute the CDs through the website asking only for a donation in return. |
