| Aubrey Was born in Pittsylvania County, on October 29, 1930. His family moved to Martinsville when he was a child. His mom and dad remained in Martinsville until their death. Aubrey attended Martinsville City Schools, but due to family circumstances, never graduated from high school. Aubrey was married and worked in the local area. In 1952, he was drafted by the Marine Corp and was sent to Korea, Aubrey was killed in action just north of Souel, Korea on March 31, 1953. Had he finished high school, He would have been a member of the Martinsville High School Class of 1948. Aubrey will receive postumously, an honorary high school diploma from the Virginia Department of Edcation for his ultimate sacrafice and service to his country. Aubrey is hereby granted membership to the Martinsville High School Class of 1948. Aubrey's younger brother Kenneth L. Oakes was a member of the class of 1964 and graduated in 1965. |
