Hi fellow classmates. I noticed in the Roanoke Times that William Phillip (Bill) Hodnett III passed away this Tuesday and will be buried tomorrow (Friday July 9, 2004). Sorry to send bad news out. God Bless you Bill. |

Re: Class of '62 loses Bill Hodnett |
Bruce,
Thank you for the timely information about Bill Hodnett. He was a soft-spoken, very kind person. He had a very low-key, but unique wit and humor. I liked Bill a lot.
I seem to remember that his father was killed in World War II in the Navy. I would be glad to hear from someone with info to the contrary about that.
I called Dennis Wilson to let him know about Bill. Again, thanks, Bruce, for getting us the word on the loss of one of the really nice guys from the Class of '62.
Best regards,
David Sparks

This is a reply to David Sparks comments about Bill Hodnett.
Bill's Dad was killed in WW II - and he was a very soft spoken guy - and a good guy. We played football together. Bill didn't play a lot in the games on Fri. nights but he was one tough kid. In practice there were certain plays where I was put in a spread formation as a receiver and Bill's job was to line up across from me and hit me as hard as he could. These plays became personal duels and we would literally beat the hell out of each other. But at the end of each parctice we had nothing but mutual respect.
Sorry I never told Bill that he was one of the toughest guys I ever played againt either in a game or practice.
