Condolences to Douglas Finney on the loss of her Mother

Died Sunday, August 22, 2010

A memorial service for Louise “Lou� Felkel Finney, 92, of Martinsville, who died Aug. 22, 2010, at her home, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Martinsville. The Rev. Ronald M. Mateer will officiate. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the home between now and Friday.

She was born in Anderson, S.C., on Sept. 4, 1917, to Frederick Wilson Felkel and Altahlee Bewley Felkel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanford Columbus Finney Sr.; a son, Stanford Columbus Finney Jr.; and a sister, Catherine F. Talbot.

After attending Anderson Junior College where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, she received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She was one of the first women chemists who worked for Dupont.

She was a member of the Charity League, Current Event Book Club, the EX Thursday Investment Club, Chatmoss Country Club, Garden Study Club, Bridge Club, Queen of the La-La Girls and the Lady Bugs.

Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Douglas Finney of Norfolk; a son, Frederick Felkel Finney of Santa Monica, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy F. Truluck of Darlington, S.C., and Emma Lee F. Holman of Anderson; a brother, Frederick Wilson Felkel Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nine nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 146 E. Main St., Martinsville, Va. 24112; the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, Mass. 01202; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Homes, Martinsville Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Thank you Jim; that was very lovely. We had a wonderful celebration of my Mom's life. wish you could have been there! Hope all is well with you!
