endless winter - 12
03/15/14     john exley  (1965)      joexley@gmail.com
i want to say it was the winter of 1959/60 when it snowed every
thursday about a foot for about a month [late Feb. into March]... i think we had 52 inches that winter. sledded all day and sledded all night. "Skipper" Risloe and I doubled down the solid ice sidewalk on Patrick Henry Hill, dodged the steel pole where they had the chain, crossed the driveway and took the jump over the bank and into the parking lot below. Geez, I wish i could that again!! The frozen crust was so hard in the city park you hardly ever broke thru and had almost no control over your sled going thru the trees. They burned tires at the top of the Patrick Henry hill and sledded on the city side with crack the whip...the school side was too fast for anything but straight shots all the way the the corner turn and around... Here's to the good days we had on Craig St, Prospect Hill/Gratton Road interchange,Forest Hill and all the other neighborhood hills thruout town and all the friends we had along the way!
