Stories of Mr. B - 12
08/27/02     Susan Bridges  (1979)      susan@follyhill.com
Hello all,
Please pardon my "juvenile" intrusion into your message forum... I am Susan Bridges, aka "Kitty," daughter of David Bridges, who taught French at Mavahi in the mid 1960s. We are compiling stories of our father's teaching career, possibly for eventual publication. If any of you have funny, interesting or otherwise notable stories from "Mr. B's" classroom, the trip to France, and/or photographic and theatrical ventures, please send them to us at

We would be most appreciative. Thank you in advance.

Re: Stories of Mr. B
I had french in my junior year with Mr. Bridges as my teacher. I didn't have much respect for many teachers at that time but he was different. i was going to fail his class because of indifference and boredom(I had trouble staying awake)As the year was ending and final exams approached, Mr. Bridges came to me and said that as this was his first year at Martinsville High School he did't want anyone to fail his class, and if i stayed awake for the final exam he would make sure i would pass. While this might not seem ethical, i was so impressed that not only did i stay awake but i passed the exam on my own merits,as he informed me later. Great teacher, one of only a few in my opinion..I hope this is what you wanted

Re: Stories of Mr. B
Update: We really, really do appreciate that some of you have responded with some really great stories. However, my email address has changed & consequently perhaps some could not contact me. Please send anything you think interesting, funny, or otherwise to my sister and me at:

Thanks again,
Best regards,
Susan Bridges Smith
