1965 has lost another classmate - 12
08/05/01     Phil Sparks  (1965)      PhilSparks@kimbanet.com
Sadly the class of 1965 has lost another classmate.

Clyde William Martin 55,of 417 Tenth St. Fieldale, died Thursday, August 2, 2001, at his home. Clyde had worked at Fieldcrest Cannon for twenty years prior to becoming ill, and for a number of years had been a volunteer with both the Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He was a member of Hill Memorial Baptist Church.

Many of you wil remember Clyde for his affable personality and the tireless time he spent as Sports manager for several Bulldog Teams.

Clyde leaves his wife Joan, and three fine sons, Lonnie W., Ronnie L. and Chad L. Martin. Three daughters-in-law and five grandchildren are among those who will sadly miss Clyde.

At the funeral I spoke briefly with Bill Whisonant and he summed things up pretty well when he said of Clyde, "Clyde seemed to work all the time...taking care of his family and doing things for the community"
For some reason that is the Clyde Martin I will remember.

I hope all who read this will join me in special prayers and thoughts for Clyde's family as they mourn this loss.

Sincerely,

Phil Sparks

Re: 1965 has lost another classmate
I want to take this opportunity to thank Phil Sparks for his lovely tributes to both Jimmy Johnson and Clyde Martin. I read the obit in the Bulletin but was not sure if it was our Clyde. I remember him well and his quiet demeanor. I am saddened to know that we have lost two more of our classmates. It makes the reunions that much more special to me. We should treasure each and every day. Thanks, again, Phil. Kathy Mitchell Foster
