Larry Dillon, age 59, of Avondale, PA, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007 at his home. He was the husband of Laurie B. Merner Dillon, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage.
Born in Martinsville, Virginia, he was the son of the late Oscar Thearon Dillon and Nannie E. Prillaman Dillon. He grew up in Martinsville in the house that his father rebuilt. It was there under his father’s guidance that he first learned to care for the land, and his love of the outdoors and maintaining his property provided him continuing pleasure. He served in the United States Air Force and his service took him as far as Japan and Korea and fostered his interest in far-away places. He was the first of his family to go to college and it was at the College of William and Mary that he and Laurie met. Larry worked for Computer Aid Inc. and was very active with the Avondale Presbyterian Church. He is remembered as a quiet and gentle man who was always ready with a helping hand and a sympathetic ear.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother and father-in-law, Dr. Richard R. and Patricia S. Merner of Avondale, PA; two daughters, Elizabeth K. Dillon of Avondale and Natalie “Tallie Miller, and her husband, Ryan of Newark, Delaware; a brother, Jeff Monroe Dillon of Salisbury, NC; a sister, Sarah D. Harris of Mooresville, NC; a sister-in-law, Patricia M. Harden of Kennett Square, PA; and a niece, Jennifer Rena Lacombe of Cape Coral, FL. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia D. Houston.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Avondale Presbyterian Church, 420 Pennsylvania Ave. (Rt. 41), Avondale, PA. Family and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 AM. Contributions may be made in Larry’s memory to the Avondale Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 446, Avondale, PA 19311 or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, #2 International Plaza, Suite 245, Philadelphia, PA 19113. Arrangements by Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, Kennett Square, PA

Re: Obit for Classmate....
Some classmates we remember fondly even though we did not know them well. Larry Dillon is one of them. I remember him as he was described in his obituary. He always had a little smile on his face and a friendly "hello" when we passed in the halls. My condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Obit for Classmate....
Wow! I was just checking out the web site and
unfortunately discovered the sad news of the passing of Larry Dillion. I first met Larry in the fall of 1959 at Clearview Elementary School. We were both members of the very worst basketball team in Martinsville/Henry County history. I don't ever remember winning a single game! I do remember that he
used to wear what later became bell-bottom
type jeans ('baggy pants'). I gave him the stupid nickname of "Baggy" Dillion. Yet, Larry was always a very gentle and caring person and his family has my deepest sympathy.

Re: Obit for Classmate....
Thanks, Archie. Larry grew up next door to Alvin Weaver on Liberty Street just across from where I lived on Greyson Street. We all played ball on Alvin's field next to the road. The obit certainly described him well. I visited Larry when we were children at his family home. We were all at Clearview together. Alvin and I have spoken fondly of him of late. My condolences to the family. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness. Jerry

Thank you, Archie, for sending this information along. The description of Larry that is included here is very close to the way I remember him.
