Mary Jane Powell - 15
03/15/09     Chris Foster  (1968)      wfoster@mcvh-vcu.edu
I just saw in the Richmond paper that Mary Jane Powell had passed away. It said she was a teacher in Martinsville for 32 years, so I presume this to be our former eighth grade Hjstory teacher. I have always considered her to be at the top of my list of the great teachers that I had. She basically single-handedly turned me around academically in the eighth grade. She recently took part in one of our reunions and looked great. She was a person who made a difference, and I will miss her. Chris Foster

Re: Mary Jane Powell
I agree with Chris, Miss Powell was a positive in my life also. I can still remember the day JFK was shot, she was the one who told me, standing in the hall of the old 8th grade building. She always had a wonderful, positive spirit about her.
