Larry Martin - 19
11/12/07     Robert Anderson  (1974)      robertandrob@aol.com
I saw an obituary in the Martinsville Bulletin last week for Larry S. Martin of Annapolis, Md. Although the age was 52 and the year of birth was 1955, the picture that ran in the paper looked a lot like the guy I played basketball with in 1972-73 for the 'Dogs.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Larry Martin
Hello Robert this is Tommy Wilkens .Sad to say it was the same Larry Martin that we both played Basketball with all those years ago. Here's the obituary from his local home town.

Larry S. Martin, 52, of Severn and previously of Martinsville, Va., died of cancer Nov. 2 at his home after a two-year illness.

The son of the late Ceolas Martin and Eturly Mae Tarpley Martin Moore, Mr. Martin was born May 3, 1955, in Martinsville where he graduated in 1974 from Martinsville High School. He joined the Army in 1978 and reached the rank of sergeant before his discharge in 1988. He received numerous medals and badges including service ribbons, the sharp shooter badge and good conduct medal.

He was a master barber, receiving certification from the Bladensburg Barber School in Prince George's County. He also worked for the Postal Service at various locations until illness forced his retirement.

Mr. Martin was a member of Prince Hall Masons Lodge 134 and Community Baptist Church in Jessup where he was on the Senior Usher Ministry. His interests included travel, working on his 1965 Chevy Malibu, spending time with family and friends, helping others, shopping, family reunions and the Washington Redskins.

Mr. Martin was formerly married to Alice Lomax. He was the brother of the late Andre Martin.

Surviving are his wife, Roxanne I. Martin, whom he married June 15, 1996; three children, Jacquette Price and Natasha Martin of Annapolis and Alicia Martin of Hampton, Va.; two stepdaughters, TerSean Lilly of Havre de Grace and Dawn Stanton of Baltimore; two brothers, Mark and Tyrone Martin, and one sister, Monique Martin, all of Georgia; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Community Baptist Church in Jessup where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.

Good luck to you and hope you and your family are doing well Robert.I'm living down in St. Augustine Florida .

Re: Larry Martin
Hi Robert:

I see that someone already replied to your message, but I just wanted to follow up because it's always good to know that other people think about your loved ones. I'm Larry's sister and I miss my oldest brother tremendously. He died of an early age (barely in his 50's) of pancreatic cancer. It's hard to believe this year will make 5 years. Thanks so much for inquiring about him.
