Mr. Starr has Passed Away - 2
10/11/09     Robin Frye  (1972)      robin@operandi.com
Anyone who enjoyed Mr. Starr's PSCS Physics class, this is sad news. I'll always remember "Got your tools?" And if you didn't have your tools, you were a "lost ball in high weeds."

Joe R. Starr
Died Wednesday, October 7, 2009
Oct 11, 2009

The funeral for Joe Roddy Starr, 76, of 1109 B St., Martinsville, who died Oct. 7, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at noon Monday at Grace Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jimmie Hawkins will preside, and burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the funeral and other times at the home.

Starr was born Jan. 17, 1933, in York, S.C., to Roddy Starr and Anna Graham Starr. They preceded him in death.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from the Martinsville School System, where he taught for 36 years. He was a member of the Virginia and National education associations; the Martinsville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; NAACP; 32nd Degree Prince Hall Masons and Shriners; Sons of Solomon Lodge 111; King Solomon Consistory 64; KuWat Shriners Temple; and American Legion Homer Dillard Post 78.

He also was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he was in the Men’s Chorus, Senior Choir and Men’s Council, and he was a trustee.
