Passing of Susie Amburn Scott - 5
01/14/12     Esther Sparks Powell  (1956)      bhpowell36@yahoo.com
I was saddened to see in yesterday's Bulletin that Susie Amburn Scott had passed away. Does anyone know what happened to her? Susie was a very sweet girl and grew up on the north side of Martinsville. I lost contact with her for about 45 years until she discovered my e-mail address on this website. My sincere sympathy to her family.

The Obituary is pasted below:

Susie A. Scott
Died Wednesday, January 11, 2012
Jan 13, 2012

The funeral for Susie Ann Amburn Scott, 71, of 300 Roundhill Road, Martinsville, who died Jan. 11, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Heights Baptist Church in Reidsville, N.C.

The Revs. Harold Venable and Andrew Hale will officiate. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park in Bassett.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett and for one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

She was born May 29, 1940, in Henry County to Earnest Amburn and Pearl Marion Amburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Amanda Turner; and three brothers, Bill, Russell and Manford Amburn.

She was an agent for Combined Insurance for most of her career.

She was a self-taught pianist and organist and sang in the choir at New Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member and taught Sunday school.

Surviving are her husband, James Scott of the home; four daughters, Glenda Meade of Collinsville, Tammie Soots of Martinsville, Regina Bigelow of York, Pa., and Kathy Hale of Bassett; one son, Doug Turner of Mooresville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
