George Carter Minter, Sr.




U.S. Veteran

George Carter Minter, Sr., 73, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013. He was born on January 31, 1940 in Henry County to the late Tilla S. and Elizabeth Carter Minter. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Minter McDonald. Family left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 44 years, Juanita Minter; son, George Minter, Jr.; daughter, Angela Minter; mother-in-law, Irene Fulcher of Bassett, VA; brother-in-law, Louis McDonald of Ridgeway, VA; sister-in-law, Rebecca Fulcher of Bassett, VA; one niece and nephew; two grandnephews; and one grandniece. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
