This is a request for letters of recommendation for nomination of my father, Mel Cartwright, Sr. to the Virginia High School Hall of Fame (for basketball coaches.) The family believes the honor is well overdue.
We'd like the letters to illustrate the positive effect Mel Sr. had on many athletes/students on so many levels: from Tiny Mite, to high school, to college and more. (With a main emphasis on his high school years, of course… We’d love to include letters regarding the inspirational way he taught in class as well.) Even the places he coached were diverse: from Martinsville to Maryland to Carlisle to Magna Vista. Early on, he also coached basketball at an Indian reservation in Colorado. He LOVED that team - it was a very satisfying coaching experience for him!
If everyone could send their letters (short or long, inspirational or even funny) to the address below (or email to meowmel@yahoo.com), I will collect all letters and make sure they are sent with the application.
The deadline is in October of 2012. So there is a little time, but I would love to have everything collected by September. Let's say by Labor Day on September 3.
THANK YOU so much for your consideration and feel free to pass the word on.
Send letters to:
