Memories - 54
12/25/02     Melvin D. Smith      melvinsmit@msn.com
David, I enjoy this web site also. As you know I'm living back in Martinsville and seeing alot of old friends. The sad part is I see alot of them if I attend a funeral of a past classmate or one of their relatives. It is a shame that we have to meet that way. This web site has help relieve some of that. I know that the "Ole Dawgs reunion put me in contact with a lot of old friends and others from my past. I'm looking forward to Oct. for the second annual reunion. As you know I didn't graduate and later got a GED, so the reunion for past students really opened an avenue for past students such as I to attend. I could thank some teachers for their effort and caring, such as Mr. Sam Lawrence, Coach Cartwright, Etc. but, Speedy Campbell worked as hard as anyone to get me through my school years. I know you are celebrating your mentors birthday today and probably want read this for a day or two. Merry Christmas to you and everyone else who reads this.

Re: Memories
Melvin, My Friend,

It was so good to see your message on this Christmas Day 2002. Memories do flood our souls when we think about the old school days, don't they?

I am always pleased to hear from good friends as yourself, Ralph Pruitt, and a host of others.

Melvin, I am really proud of our long-ago friendship, and it was really swell of you to visit the funeral home in Ridgeway when my brother, Sam, passed away a few months ago.

You have taken charge of your life and some things are very obvious: regardless of how the first few "chapters" of Melvin Smith's educational life may have turned out, you have distinguished yourself, and pressed on to greater and higher things.

Melvin, I love to hear about old friends, like you, who do well for themselves and are able to look back on how the good Lord has brought them through victoriously! There's no telling how many wonderful folks who also love to read the messages on Mavahi.Com who will be touched and blessed by what you have shared here today.

You will always be a special friend to me, Melvin. Congratulations, on how things have turned out for you!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Your pal in Christ,

Rev. David Sparks cdsparks@rjia.net

Re: Memories
Happy Christmas Melvin. It was great seeing you in NJ at Johnny's party. I had dinner with Johnny & Donna last month in Atlanta. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. Just saw your note and wanted to send Holiday greetings. Keep in touch and hang in there. I'll let you know when I come to VA. and we can get a group together for dinner. Warm regards, Bev
