Northside- Byrds? - 54
08/15/04     Melvin D. Smith  (1963)      melvinsmit@msn.com
I am sitting here thinking of days past and of the Northside students. We made up a large part of the Martinsville High School students. Where are they now? Bennie Byrd just passed away. Many people from other sections of Martinsville may never have heard of Bennie. I remember him as a man who raised all his children and made sure they went to school. He lived in the same house for over 60 years and would help anyone that needed help. He installed a work ethic in his children and many of you are living in houses they helped build and most of us have eaten steaks that his sons cut for us. May he rest in peace in God's hyands.

Re: Northside- Byrds?
I am very well acquainted with Bennie Byrd
and several of his children. My family lived
on Rahway Street and I used to be a playmate
with most of the Byrd kids. I agree that
Bennie was a decent man .... and hardworking.
He was always kind to us kids playing near
his home. It was very kind of you to remem-
ber Bennie Byrd this way. I have nothing
but fond memories of the entire Byrd family.
