I just recently returned from the Martins-
ville/Henry County area where I participated
in a reunion of the Class of '56. Time never
stands still, I know - but, the changes I
seen in the area were shocking to me. Mar-
tinsville used to rank as one of my favorite
places - but, not any more. Looking out
over the area that used to be the "Fair
Grounds" and not seeing Liberty Heights was
really saddening to me. The old Northside
Play Ground where I participated in many,
many baseball games is also long gone.
That may be "progress" to some - but, it
is devastating to others. |

Re: Old Vs New |
Known what you mean, Ralph. I grew up around that playground and spent many a dollar at the fair at Liberty Heights and swam in the pool. My house was 2 doors up from the old North Martinsville Elementary School. |

Re: Old Vs New |
Well said "Junior" - well said. Our summer
day games at the Northside Playground between
Northside and Southside were memorial - for
sure. "Baby", *Foxy", "Crow", "Teakettle"
and many others vs "Junior", "Percy", Riddle,
Tuttle, Young-Brigman and many more will
live with me forever. |
